Music Programme - Notes from the Music Department
Students at FCAC are able to involve themselves in Music as a co-curricular activity (as well as taking Music as a Subject). Our students enjoy a wide range of musical activities. Our instrumental music program offers tuition in many areas of instrumentation including Brass, Woodwind, String and Percussion instruments, Theory tuition, Piano, Guitar and Vocal tuition. We also have a variety of ensembles for student participation, including Bands and Choirs. Any parents interested in starting their child learning a musical instrument can contact the music department for further information.

MUSIC EXTENSION - added Monday, 8 October 2007
This course will again be operating from 2008 under a revised syllabus. It is very exciting for students to be able to specialise in an extended range of subject areas - not just performance.

NEW MUSIC SUPPORT OFFICER - added Sunday, 15 July 2007
Our new Music Support Officer from term 4, 2007 is Mr. Les Browell. Les has been involved in many Arts Development Projects across the country and brings considerable expertise to the Visual & Performing Arts Department.

ORCHESTRAS AND BANDS - added Wednesday, 7 February 2007
Concert Band 1 and String Ensemble have amalgumated into Orchestra for the foreseeable future and will continue to rehearse on Wednesday afternoons until 4.30pm.

GUITAR TUTORS - added Wednesday, 31 January 2007
Our new guitar teacher, Mr. Mark Nuske, will be starting at the beginning of Term 3. Mr. Nuske will no doubt be well known to many of you who are involved in the Country Rock and local music scenes. Having just returned from fully professional touring and working interstate, we are indeed fortunate to have Mr. Nuske return to FCAC.

All instrumentalists need to join and attend band rehearsals on a regular basis. This is a vital part of an instrumentalist’s development and provides experience of repertoire and ensemble work that can not be taught in individual lessons. EXAMS & EISTEDDFODS - added Tuesday, 30 January 2007
We encourage all our students to undertake exams on their instruments. This could be through Trinity or AMEB with the latter being the most popular due to it’s world recognition as one of the most demanding series of exams. Wide Bay AMEB Practical Exams are scheduled for May and September and Maryborough Eisteddfod is in Week 2 of Term 3. Click for more specific details (dates, times etc) as they become available.
