Introduction

Fraser Coast Anglican College has adopted the “Protection from Harm of Students in Anglican Schools” Policy developed by the Anglican Diocese of Brisbane, January 2005.  Download the Protection from Harm of Students in Anglican Schools Policy (PDF 150 kb)

Information about the policy is contained in the Student Diary and displayed in all classrooms to assist students in identifying harm, inappropriate behaviour and abuse and gives guidance about the steps they can take to get some help with reporting these matters.

Principles

The policy is based on the following principles:

Selection of Staff

All staff appointed to FCAC must have a police check which for teachers is part of the teacher registration process and for all other support and administration staff is part of the requirements for the “Suitability Card for Child Related Employment” commonly known as the “Blue Card” system which is issued by the Queensland Commission for Children and Young People.

Parent Volunteers

The College is very ably supported in a wide variety of co-curricular areas by our parent volunteers. It is a College requirement that our parent volunteers possess the Suitability Card for Child Related Employment.

Induction and Ongoing Training

New teaching and support staff appointed to Fraser Coast Anglican College are required to undergo an induction program which includes training in all aspects of the school’s Protection from Harm policy, the school’s Bullying policy, the school’s Discrimination policy and Workplace Health and Safety policy. All staff at FCAC receive “refresher” training on an annual basis for all these policies.

Reporting Harm, Inappropriate Behaviour or Abuse

If, as a parent, you become aware of any matters of harm, inappropriate behaviour or abuse that relate to any student or staff member at FCAC you are strongly encouraged to report the matter to the school. The school will follow the guidelines for reporting as set down in the full policy (download the Protection from Harm of Students in Anglican Schools Policy- 150 kb PDF) . You are encouraged to report your concerns to one of the school safety officers or to one on the pastoral support team listed below.

School Safety Officers

The school has appointed 2 primary and 2 secondary staff as school safety officers to whom students can go to report situations of harm, inappropriate behaviour or abuse. The safety officers receive training in all aspects of the Protection from Harm policy.

The Primary Safety Officers are:
Mrs Lia Trevisan, Classroom Teacher and Mr Joe Wright, Classroom Teacher

The Secondary Safety Officers are:
Mrs Sheridan Fisher, School Counsellor and Mr Peter Smith, Andromeda Head of House

The Pastoral Support team

Other pastoral care staff to whom students and parents can report harm, inappropriate behaviour or abuse include: Heads of House, Chaplains, Directors of Students, Deputy Head of Primary, Head of Primary, Deputy Principal, and the Principal.

Commitment to a “Safe” School

Fraser Coast Anglican College is fully committed to providing a “safe” and supportive pastoral environment for all of our students. All matters relating to the “Protection of Harm for Students” policy will be dealt with in accordance with the processes outlined above. Respect for the privacy and confidentiality of students and families is paramount in our dealing with these serious matters. Students, families and staff members will be supported through our pastoral care system.
